help pls : accelerator cable mod for IDF 44 linkage 1963 beetle
novasmic - January 5th, 2014 at 05:59 PM

I need to find a better solution for my throttle cable. I had made up a tube and flared the end but the cable is cutting through the tube and I’m sure it won’t be long before it cuts through my cable. Someone must have come up with a better idea.

The cut in the tube is from 700km of driving only.

How about a small steel wheel? So the cable can roll on it rather than drag across a tube?

Out on a limb here - but why not move the arm one hex side down

I never had a problem with the linkage set up on a Type 1 motor with hex bar

looks like the arm is set to high.
most vw cable works fine on twin webbers.
its a bit hard to tell but looks like you need to rework the linkage angles

It is an aftermarket shroud - is the tube in the wrong spot?

vw54 - January 5th, 2014 at 06:48 PM

typical EMPI product buy shit have shit

GET an original fan shroud shouldn't be any problems then
CHINESE CHROME JUNK

just don't buy it

I had a similar problem with a aftermarket shroud, i slotted the hole in the shroud upwards, then put a radius in the tube and silver solded a small cover plate on the end to cover the slot, i agree the arm is mounted in the wrong position on the cross bar, you might have to adjust the length of the linkage rods on the carbs when you reposition the arm, then the cable will need to be shortened.
