Hi can anyone please tell me what year seat belts first started coming out in beeltes?
Cheers James
Australian Design Rule 4 - Seat Belts Front was released 1/Jan/1969. Seat Belts Rear were required after 1/Jan/1971
That was the ADR requirement, however seatbelts would have been fitted earlier.
I have a 1963 Holden that originally had no seatbelts, and first thing I did was fit new retractable belts all round with lap rear centre.
My 67 beetle had no seat belts, has been fitted with proper belts in the front now but the back still has the little factory plugs in the holes. I'd guess mine would have been one of the last without. The deluxe's had them as standard I believe.
My '63 had VW belts. I think that anything after '64 requires belts in NSW.
ther was an anchor point in 63 bugs
Thanks everyone, I'll have to do a little bit of reading to see if I have to fit some to my 67 then
Hi
Its up to you but you would be mad not to fit seat belts.

My wife was driving her previous Beetle, and someone drove out of a driveway and up the wrong side of the road straight into the Beetle. they were doing about 20, the Beetle was doing 70, so a 90kph collision, as there was not even time to touch the brakes. Not her fault in any way. If it was not for the seatbelt, she would have been hurt more. She chipped a tooth on the steering wheel, so pretty close. The RH pillar was back, bending the dash, concertina the door and kinking the roof.
