Custom Bugs and Bus in Penrith dyno tune
tothemaxx - January 30th, 2014 at 11:54 AM

HI guys,

just wanted to share my experience with Mike @ Custom Bugs and Bus in Penrith. My Karmann Ghia have had running issue for a while especially in the 2k rev range where it has flat spots and hesitation even in light throttle. I've been to 3 different mechanics to get this problem sorted out but could never get it right. Well I took my car to Mike yesterday and he spotted a problem with my accelerator cable and linkage straight away and fixed this problem. He basically fixed a bodged job from the previous mechanic which two hours as the problem was more serious than first thought. Anyway after getting this problem fixed we continued to get the car onto the dyno and the first run the car was pulling 58 hp at the wheels. My engine is a Type 4 Porsche 914 2.0ltr engine with dual 40 IDF webber with standard internals. Mike straight away knew the car was running rich which is what I was suspecting and after through the fine tuning and adjusting the jets the car ended up pulling 73 HP!!!! I was stoked. The torque and hp dramatically improved and when I took it for a test drive the difference was day and night! I couldn't be happier. The power felt like it doubled and the torque was amazing. All I wanted to say is thanks to Mike I can fully appreciate my KG now as more I felt disappointed with the performance. Mike is a straight up guy who tells it as it is and does things properly. I recommend CCB to anyone and I'm sure I won't be going to anyone else anymore. I don't Mike personally and have only met him yesterday and I wished I would of went to him earlier cos me would of saved me 1000's from going to the other mechanics who ended up doing worst for my car than good. Below I've posted the pics of the dyno graph comparison chart for you guys to see. Hope you enjoy it. Cheers

Pat

good to see the results there Pat.

mike is the man!.

my kombi has a motor built by mike many years back. it is abused and looked after very poorly, but has and still does a great job getting my splitty along. you wont find a better mechanic and just all round good guy.

Could not agree more. CBB is the place
Mike built a 1600tp for my bug a few years back.
Drove up and back from Melbourne in a day in the work ute to pick it.
Top engine, top guy, gave me a tour of the shop when I was there.. very impressive stuff.

Good on you Pat

Glad you found those missing ponies.

73 RWHP on a KG would be fun and sounds like a BIG improvement.

It was more than that because he wasnt getting the 58 HP when he drove in there.
he was only getting 50% throttle opening at best
He got 58HP when this was fixed

vlad01 - April 4th, 2015 at 10:44 AM

is the red curve torque? or AFRs?

looks pretty wavy

tothemaxx - April 24th, 2015 at 04:06 PM

I think it is torque but is not 100% sure. I remember he accelerated and then let go a bit and then accelerated again so maybe that why it is wavy

fish26 - April 24th, 2015 at 05:27 PM

Is it a stock 2L 914 engine with correct heads?
