Hi all,
I've just purchased a barn find 64 beetle with what appears to be a genuine 49000 miles on the clock.
The body is reasonably straight and the motor kicks over.
Brakes are totally seized and for stopping power will be converted to 4 wheel disks .
So here's the question!
Do I rip out the 1200 and replace it with something ballsier or do I retain the authenticity of the car?
I'm thinking an Okrasa upgrade to retain that old school vintage performance look and feel.
Plan is bolting 1300 dual port heads and twin 30 solex carbs and the arbarth exhaust.
From what I've researched the crankshaft will need balancing to cope with the higher revs. Total displacement with be 1385cc
The Okrasa kit from Wolfsburg West is looking good. It states that it's a 36hp option.
Will this fit and work with my 40hp?
I know the car won't be a rocket sled but should handle freeway speeds and hills without revving it's tits off.
Thoughts, advice and opinions please!
if its still got the standard transaxle it will rev its tits off at freeway speeds. You will have to put some thought into that part of the equation.
Why put 4 wheel discs?
A lot of work and $$ and totally non original
If going Okrasa, why not Porshe Super 90 finned drums?
Will 1300 dual port heads fit?
Why not pull the 1200, put it aside and just pit a 1600 with arbarth exhaust in there?
