Does any one have any information good or bad on air cond dealer fit on a late model imported beetle? LHD around 1973-74 I am thinking of importing one. non fuel injected. Plus the semi auto which is a must to me.
The air cond units I have seen in L bugs are fair at best
The unit that lives in the front is HUGE and compressors are very power sapping
Thanks... Yeh the compressor looks pretty big! i suppose you have to remember we are talking mid 70's. It would be a bit of a hit to turn it on when its 40 deg!
Those same compressors were fitted to Ford Fairlanes, and LTD's of the same era,and as a refrigeration mechanic,I came across quite a few running small walk-in cold rooms.Turn it on,on a hot day,and it would be on a par with hitching up a twenty five foot caravan to the back of the Bug!Might be an idea to find out what refrigerant it is running on,as the refrigerant it was designed for (R12) was phased out decades ago,and its replacement (R134A) runs higher discharge pressures, putting more of a load on the engine.
Surely you could adapt a small current tech compressor out of a very small import like a Nissan Micra or similar. Would expect they are far more
efficient, but I am no aircon expert at all
Cheers
There are kits available from US suppliers to fit A/C to Beetles. They would seem t be more efficient than the original type, but I've no personal
experience with them.
Cheers,
Brett.
try talking to joel, he fitted a couple of them.
Just the one in mine, but if you only want it for display purposes go for it but if you want it to actually function don;t bother and buy one of the
new kits.
Gilmore do both LHD and RHD systems for both flat and curved screen.
