Hi all,
As the title says, what upgrades can be pinched from a Super to put into a Standard? I'm getting a rusty Super as a parts car (body is beyond
repair), mainly for the healthy 1600DP and a few other bits and pieces. What other things can I use to upgrade my standard (safety things) that I
might not be aware of. I admit I'm pretty green to Beetles but not to cars.
Cheers, Greg.
off the top of my head the seats and thats it.
everything is a different size. steering wheels are different splines
possibly the brakes but I'm not sure.
Depends on the Year of your standard Beetle.
Mine is a 66, and I think the Super is a 73.
From a '73 Super?
Mine is a 9/73 so here goes.......
Seats should be twin rail so might even just slide straight in, steering column switchgear/ignition barrel/steering lock (this doesn't just bolt up
though), disc brakes with wheel bearing matching and a caliper mount, interior trim (armrest bolt-holes are a bit different), the heater fan works
great down the back to "push" the heated air, all the 12V stuff like mounts/globes/regulator/generator, the SSC gearbox ("L" Bug box) is the
strongest Beetle box out there and you can adapt the whole IRS to the '66 if you want, the 4-stud wheels onto the 4-stud brakes that bolt up to the
'66 rears, the speedo is 160kph not 140kph (mine is at least) so you won't break the damn thing with only a piddly little 1641 on the way to Leonora
for the races when you're running late.........
Lots of stuff, have a look over when you get it next to the shed.
If it's a '74-up, then some parts are different, but not many really, you just need to be creative sometimes.
Modnrod, if only there was a like button!

Well, yeah! If I can make seat mounts for the BMW seats which the engineer is happy with, I'm sure with the right 'percussive alignment' tools, I'll make stuff fit!
Almost anything can be made to fit.
I guess what Phil means that very little is a direct fit from a Superbug to a 66 standard bug. If you're going to the trouble of fabricating new
seat mounts, the last seat I would pick would be fitting Superbug seats into a 66.
Yep Phil's right. He may not have known Greg's a steel man.
I like the Super seats personally, I find most modern seats too hard over the day, but lateral support is not their strong point. I guess that's why
Greg's using the BMW upgrades.
