The leads need replacing and i have only seen 8mm h/d leads for T1 motors. Would rather upgrade if i can.
Any ideas??
Dan
Stock leads are the best!. I've always had trouble with anything else..
If it's a stock motor there's no need to "upgrade", just use stock copper core leads. I've just bought a few meters of copper HT cable, plus new
end terminals and rubber boots for a total of $25. If your spark plug plugs are in good nick, this is all you need. The only worthwhile upgrade may
be to use silicon insulated cable rather than rubber insulated cable as it will last longer.
Remember, alot of after market graphite cored replacement leads don't have the hard plastic spark plug connectors with the rubber sealing ring on
them. These seals are important to keep precious cooling air in.
Where did you get the parts?
Cheers Dan
Yes purple type3 is correct...
I used graphite leads on My type 3 many years ago and suffered from arcing from the leads to earth etc...
Check them at night to see if they are arcing thru the jacket..
The temperatures found in the engine compartment of a type 3 is much higher than found in a Beetles engine bay
so original type leads are best... and copper will never burn out, wereas some graphite types etc can burn out...
The are some good aftermarket 10mm leads but You have to make sure the sealing boots will fit over the spark plugs...

I bought them from a local auto parts supplier called Auto Spares Galore. I don't think they are a chain store, but I'm sure there will be something similar in Sydney. They're a great shop cos they are a parts supplier rather than an accessories shop like supercheap or autobarn. It may be worth asking at your local auto shops cos they often stock stuff like this out the back. If all else fails, drop me a U2U and I can post a set of bits up to you.
For completeness I’d like to add that solid conductor wires may not be the best if you have or intend to go with aftermarket EFI or other onboard
electronics. Or in some cases if you enjoy AM radio.
Merry Xmas.
I've just rebuild my 69 type 3 and for 95% of the parts I got them from Stores on Ebay in the USA. For good prices and fast shipping. There was one
store that was selling stock replacement leads for around $9US.
Good Luck.
