Hi all just got my bus back from getting a straight axel convertion thanks to Brad and the gang from custom off road great job.
Just wondering what most people do for the new spring plate clearance, plates or change the wheel offset as i want to put my old wide 5"s back on
the drums are just 70 1500 L bug but i have some wide 5's for when i get it sorted.
thanks
See if you can find some wide 5 type 3 brakes and backing plates, thats what I fitted to mine.
I also found that I could only fit beetle wheels(solid wide 5's ) to allow enough clearance.
Cheers
Dave
yep i got some type 3 wide 5 drums on the rear aswell.
bus looks sweet as what size tyres you got on the front they look nice , i have 195/50/15s on mine and i have the adjusters fully down and the gap is
alittle big between the wheel and wheel arch yours look sweet. i think i will be doing a narrowing job and adding some drop spindles to mine after i
finally get rego again
thanks
i have 195 65 14s on the front but i think i will put them on the rear when i get it sorted and put 185 60s on the front and drop her down some
more
i was suprised how nice she rides after the drop with just the adjusters
Hey Darren did you have change the offset to fit your rear wheels?
There is also a wide range of aftermarket spring plates available. Some 'notched', some adjustable, and I also found some recently with a dogleg in them so maybe you don't have to shorten the axles.. I dunno.. gotta find the pic again..
Man that looks awesome... hmmm, so brad did this, mmmm.....kool
mmm maybe
The problem Bob has isn't ride height it is that he has custom 14" rims ATM. With the narrowed rear track that the Straight AXle Conversion gives
they no longer fit.
When you do a Straight Axle Conversion to thing that stops you going lower is actually the top of the front guards. I have set it up so they clear on
full up travel, but only by about 10 mm. Lower profile tyres will allow it to go even further down into the weeds...
I must say it does look pretty cool sitting next to the Baja Bus ... one xtreme to the other ....
