"AB" 1300 Twin port- what to do?
ctefeh - August 15th, 2005 at 02:46 PM

Gurus,
Picked up one of these and after ripping the barrells off and checking end-play, it needs a heap of work. It came with a 30 PICT 2 and SVDA dissy.

So...the current car is a 1600 TP Semi-auto.

What would be the better STOCK option for upgrading this donk to fit said vehicle?

Bore barrells to O/S 1300?
1500 pistons/barrells and re-jet (or use 34 PICT 3)?
1600 pistons/barrels and use the 34 PICT 3?

Thanks
Ctefeh

1600 if you have the kit, otherwise buy a 1640cc kit which also fits the case without modifying/machining.

You will need to bore out the 1300 heads though to fit, or just buy 1600TP heads.

What is wrong with the engine currently in the car?

Craig,
Accelerator pump discharge tube missing from 34 PICT 3, and when I went to change plugs I had to stop myself as the one I tried was extremely tight. It'll either come out after a soak in penetrant or strip itself in which case it's engine out anyway.
Add a 009 that needs a fettle......nothing much apart from that. First kick starter (despite the acc pump!), doesn't blow weed etc.

However, I would rather have something in reserve just in case.

I have been told 1300 heads have smaller valves than 1600 heads.

I had a s/p 1640 with 1300 heads some years back. Had noticably more torque off the lights than the t/p 1640 I had next. Really nice.
