bluescorpion - August 18th, 2005 at 11:47 AM

Did any of the 4 stud beetles from 68 onwards have front drum brakes or were they all disc brake fronts ? ? ?

Nah some still had drums all round. My '71 1500 started out with drums but I've fitted disks now (farily easy job if that's where you're headed).

Hi ruckus - the problem I have is I have a 69 Baja with a disc brake front end but the wheels I have that I want to fit are all wide 5 pattern not 4 stud. I noticed a couple of sites on the net in the USA that sell wheel adaptors & I found that you can buy from them 4 stud to take wide 5 pattern wheel adaptors but they dont say if they will fit disc brake fronts. They sell them in pairs.

My '79 still has drums all round. I keep thinking about changing to discs but I have to get permission from the missus first!:fakesniff:

1300 models had Drum brakes front in Aussie

all US models had drums right to the end of production.

if your going to run adaptors use a wheel that will hide them because they are illegal.

You can buy a wide 5 front disc brake kit to suit a ball joint front beam
check on the cb performance website

Buy new wheels. Easier, cheaper, safer

How much does it cost to change over to discs?
