Hey everyone, some people might think that i have lost my mind but i have been thinking about replacing the 2Ltr motor in my 77 baywindow kombi with a
1300 from a bug. I used to have a bug with a 1300 and it used hardly any fuel but the 2Ltr in my bus loves the stuff. I dont mind having a really slow
car, but was wondering if the weight of a late bay bus would be to much for the little motor? Would the motor mount up to the 2Ltr box? if not i have
a 1600 kombi box i could use.
Any advice would be great!
Thanks,
Alex.
Too slow! my friend has a splitty with a 1300. I drove it a couple of times and when I got back into my oval I thought she was supercharged!
Rob...
Don't do it man. The 1300 won't last long at all pushing all that weight. If you're not happy with fuel consumption can I suggest either putting a good EFI setup on ya 2 litre or changing over to an EJ22 subaru. Alternatvely, you could get a golf diesel engine (I think it would go well with the 2 litre gearbox ratios), but don't put a 1300 in it. The car is already struggling to push itself along with a 2 litre, you'll be an accident waiting to happen with a 1300.
man if your gunna get rid of my old motor im keen to grab it of you for my baja ,hows she going your old ute is still kicking along although i just broke the accelerater cable the other day
yeah man..come on....dont do it...as much as im not a big kombi fan and i like to see bugs be quicker ...thats just pointless...you wont be able to climb anyh hills.
Anthony
LOL...... even 1600TP suck in a kombi
Furthermore, you might not find that fuel usage changes that much. The engine will be working much harder than it was in a bug, and doing a certain
speed, well, the physics of air drag on a rather bluff-bodied object remain the same regardless of engine.
I heard of a splitty with a diesel golf engine. I like the diesel principle: if anyone has knowledge on this I'd love to hear about it (perhaps in
another thread to avoid hijacking :P).
Cheers, Aurel.
