squizy - September 13th, 2005 at 11:24 PM

What do you want to do? How fast do you want to go? Do you want to be reliable? How much do you want to spend?

Once you know this, then you know what direction you can take.

What porsche engine are you talking about Super 90 out of a 356 or a 411. Finding a super 90 is almost impossible rebuilding one costs a fortune, and then you have to get your car modified to accept one. you would be better off installing a VW 1916 or 1835 these would give the same and better performance! and bolt straight in.
Rob...

Fit a Kombi motor.................that's a failed Porsche motor. :P

bus914 - September 14th, 2005 at 09:49 PM

nay, talk to Stan about a roid 1916

hellbugged - September 14th, 2005 at 10:42 PM

hmmm...

humpty - September 17th, 2005 at 12:25 AM

Forget it....It cost too much no matter what Porsche engine your talking about, it weighs too much if its any one of the boxer six's, and they don't fit, without MAJOR surgery to your car....

And even if you somehow got around all those problems, it would handle like a pig!

Just don't go there...

If you wnat to stay aircooled, the look to a good hotrod T1 based engine hopup....Loads cheaper, EXR to fit, 'legal' and can be done by just about any competent VW workshop...within reason! :thumb

fastback_paul - September 24th, 2005 at 10:05 PM

I can not understand the attraction of the porsche motor, apart from the ability to say
" I have got a porsche motor in that"
what are you going to get: a sore hip ocket and a loss of reliability?
The beauty of the volks moto is its simplicity, and the reliability that comes with that simplicity.
If you want complex, get a porsche, a lover or two and a second job.

VWFOOL - September 24th, 2005 at 10:17 PM

why does every 2nd guy at the servo or in the carpark or wherever used to hav a "mate" who used to hav a porsche engine in his bug? and not just any engine, but 911 turbos. was the 70s and 80s full of these crazy bugs driving aorund with turbo flat 6s?

humpty - September 24th, 2005 at 10:38 PM

No.....Just lots of hot rodded vw's....Aussie VDubs have been getting modded for ever...

I remember back when I was a kid (early 80's), cruisin down the road in my dads 911 and the bright yellow bug pulls up along side...My dad looks over and gives the guy a nod, the guy in the bug, gives a smile, the lights change and BANG!....the first time i had every seen a car do a wheel stand! And on the street no less!

My dad always owned VW's and Porsches....He knew, what was what.....That bug gave us real good run, it was only when we got into 4th gear that we managed to get past that bug....Fuck it was fast!...And it was VW powered!

It changed my life! :)

You know that you can get creams for those roids Craig Paton ?!
You know I am just pulling your leg!

helbus - April 27th, 2006 at 09:40 PM

Get people all the time saying we should have put a Porsche motor in the bus instead of the Suby motor. Then they say they knew one once with one in it and it blew away V8's etc.. It does get tiring. It is always a VW they seem years ago.

Volkswagenboy - April 27th, 2006 at 09:51 PM

Any mainstream driver assumes a twin carb VW motor is a Porsche motor!
-Staggers.

kombibob - April 27th, 2006 at 10:27 PM

was in a drive thru the other day in my new bus the bloke serving says "do thoes wheels make it go faster", refering to my porsche wheels, i said no but this does and gave the subi a rev up to about 6.5 rpms and he said holly shit its got a porsche motor in it too!
i just smiled and drove off.
so now we have another story out there to go the rounds:P

Ooops Sorry.............its a Porsche motor that prefered to be fitted to a commercial VW vehicle. :P

Not much difference between a 912 engine and a Kombi !
