type 4 94mm cylinders bored out to 96mm

G'day all, I want to know if anyone know's of a competent machine shop who can bore out my set of 94mm cylinders to 96mm with the use of torque plate to stop warping and then hone to correct finish. I have a 78mmstroker crankshaft with type 1 journals, I know i can get them from the states, but why do that when i have three sets of t4 94 cylinders in my engine parts collection. All replies greatly appreciated, cheers Damien.

Not sure, but any engine shop that does boring should be able to do it. The yellow pages or call around some of the speed shops (motor bike shops too) in your area and ask them who to send things to for machining. I

I was reading about this on the weekend, and aparently one of the done things is machining in keith black chevy 305 pistons, and then running long chevy rods, though I suppose you could also run 5.5" or 5.7" vw journeled h beams as well. The advantage of the KB pistons is the top of the piston is even further down than a mahle B piston.

The smaller bearing journels make for less friction and more revs, plus you can run a longer rod and increase the rod ratio.

I am not 100% certain but I am pretty sure Crankshaft Engineering does it. Craig and Dave (dangerous on the forum - he frequents the drag racing section) do fantastic work.

It was a while back but I think they did my boring/honing on my 94mm type IV barrels out to 94.5mm (slight oversize pistons)....also did the balancing of crank, rods, pistons, flywheel (lightened) and pulley. It revs really smoothly.

Sorry if they don't do it though - it was a while back I had mine done!

V Force in Sydney has a machinist that would do it.

Get in contact with Richard Holzl ( http://www.beetleracing.com ) or u2u Alex Holzl on the forum
