Okay, now I know that a number of places sell a strap arrangement to hold a kombi box into a type 1, but it looks super dodge to me, especially as the
ones I looked at mount it solid. The engineer ain't gonna like that.
So, what are the other methods people have used successfully in the past? Anyone got any pics? I'm after ideas before I go an re-invent the wheel...
:P
The COR one has rubber mounts.

I've installed a COR kit on 3 cars now and I'm happy with how they work.
they probably work just fine - but I really don't like the design. I was wondering if there was other approaches.
Not sure about the mounting but i believe you also need a modified nose cone or something to do with the shifter arrangement? Bergs make it i think

I see what you mean. I just don't like the design of either to be honest. Welding two couplings together to get the shifter height right was a
quick and simple fix! Might be doing that one for sure
Hi
Bergs did a well engineered kit, but they are pricey.

Steve, I had a look but can't find a pic of their kit...

That camera angle is decieving. They go close, but on an factory IRS car they won't touch. The photo is a facotory IRS car.
On an IRS converted car I believe you need to do some hammer work.
They fit fine....
Thanks guys.
I bought some mounts from the local auto shop today and was having a fit and fiddle this arvo.
Hi
This is a scan out of the Berg catalogue. As you can see they dont use the engine mounting bolts.

here's what I'm going to be trying. I cut the beetle mount base off, and welded on one I made which takes a holden V8 engine mount, and have made a
plate and tube mount that will bolt to the kombi box once I have drilled 2 holes into it. The box only sits 10mm further back than the beetle box
now.
Will let you know how well it works of course. I'm hoping it won't be too floppy...LOL
Here's pics of the mount and bracket loosely in place.

update:
The guy I use to do machining work (I don't own a mill or lathe or anything more expensive than a drill press) can't bore the holes for the rear
mount I'm making until well after christmas, and I want it on the road ASAP so as much as I don't want to, I'll be using the strap type.
Sharpbuilt is sending one down early next week. I managed to remove, shorten and bend to suit the shift rod today, so it's all in place.
