I finally went to autobarn and got an electric windscreen washer pump for the kombi. Was so easy to do im amazed i havent done it sooner.

I just cut the hose out of the bottom of the water bottle, squeezed one end onto the pump and the other end directly to the T piece under the dashboard. Wired the pump to a relay, which was connected to an empty pin on the fuse box. To operate it i drilled a hole in the dash to the right of the steering column and put a subtle little black button in.

I now squirts like its had a kidney transplant... why didnt i do it sooner? heheheheehe :P

It's great to have a cleen screen; I've done the same as you.

On my list of projects for a rainy day, I'm going to put a microswitch in place of the 'air-operated' switch for the wiper actuator, so that I can also actuate it by pulling the wiper lever upwards. It's not as big a step forward as the one you've taken, but it would be elegant to be able to work the washers as VW intended.

yeah switch in the lever would be cool... but im too lazy

what sort of relay did you use?

I have done what modulus is referring to on my kombi so it can be done. It was actually really easy using a small 60c microswitch from Jaycar. I also used the original washer bottle. I will take a pic and post it next time I have my column apart.

i fitted a micro switch to mine as well but i have a 74 Lbug
a pair of old contacts from a high beam switch can be used too.
if there is nothing wrong with your original washer bottle just by an line washer pump for it thats all i did just make sure to drill an air hole in the lid.

small question where do u get the power from?? ie where does the positive hook up to from the pump?? fuse box?? or some other source??
really need to know where to get a source of power from?? pretty much im running a small pump off my bottle which has your normal +ive and -ive so the +ive runs to a fuse, then to a small push button switch then where do i hook it up to?? power source?? obviously the -ive off the pump goes to ground. can any one help me?

run 12 to your switch from anywhere... Find a spare 12v pin on the fuse box and run a wire to that i dont think that a little water pump will draw much power, if it did it would only be for say 5 second bursts and unlikely to melt wires if you just jacked off a wire near the switch. Be safe and run a new wire to a spare 12v pin on the fuse box.

only problem is that the pump is much stronger than the tire used to be and the jets now 'overshoot' the windscreen...whats my best bet in fixing this?

the nozzles can swivel a little bit... get a sewing needle, stick it in the squirter nozzle, and use it to aim the nozzle down til it hits the glass where you want it to

thats also good for unlblocking them too
they often block up when u polish ur dub

I grabbed the Indicator/Washer assembly from a 76 Golf. It was a tight fit for the plastic wire holder to fit down through the space in the steering column but with a little plastic shaving and a file the assembly fits with no problems. It worked in my 73 Super so may work in others. I have just been realy slack and have not put the squirter motor in yet. Oh and I am reasonably sure I had to check the wires against the original. In fact the assemblies look very similar apart from the vacuum switch is replaced by a normal switch

When I bought a new wiper switch for my 1302 it already had a power feed for the washers.

I prefer to use the stock washer bottle with an inline pump as already mentioned.

I got a vw golf window washer, and put it on my bug.

jsut got a button, and wired it straight to the 12volt source. works fine.

has anyone got any directions on how to install the switch in the stalk?

im just not in for drilling more holes in my dash
