rust repair: grafting body metal
ruckus - February 13th, 2006 at 08:58 PM

Just looking at how much it's going to cost to get the repair sections for my '54 bug and started thinging about the shell I've got in the driveway. It's a '74 standard and I'm wondering if things like heater channels and firewalls (sections forward and after doors) can be cut out of a later model car and used on something as early as a '54?

I'm assuming the guage of metal is different and think I can remember this being a bit of a no-no?

Ok but could you cut out templates and use relatively flat sections?

In my experience, if a sill has rust anywhere, it has rust everywhere. Try and get some complete sills from a rust-free 50s/60s car; or new replacement sills. Is it a resto?

Mark you're a legend. I'll probably take the heater channels but I'll suss it out properly and then get back to you.
