Type 3 IRS pan conversion
67fasty - May 23rd, 2006 at 01:53 PM

I have a '67 fasty - swing axle, 4 wheel drums etc... and a good IRS pan from a '72 fastback.

Does anyone know what is involved in fitting the early body on the later pan? The aim is obviously to get IRS, front disks etc...

Anyone done such a conversion?

rear engine mounts are the only problem, far as i can see. you can either weld in the chassis mounts from the later one or weld IRS brackets to your forked subframe and bolt that on or both.:thumb

here's a pic of a swing-axle subframe with IRS trailing arms:

I hear that converting the early rear subframe to irs is the go. then the motor is properly supported, the early body won't have the right rear body mounts to cope without the chassis horns.

When I did my conversion that's what I was told too Pete.
