can you fit a 1600sp into a 56 oval?

Yep, but you will need to modify the rear tinware to get it in.

It is a tight fit though. Plenty of people have done it.

thanks, wasn't sure the gearbox/starter motor would work.

They wont. You will need a 12V starter and starter bush and to grind out the bell housing. You will need to convert the rest of the electrics to 12 volt.

Ahhuh!!

Now we know the full story. The engine will fit, as long as you make the necessary mods to the tranny setup.

Maybe I should of elaborated.

I would suggest buying a workshop manual such as the gregory's one or a haynes or something for the basics. There will be plenty of pic's in them too. What exactly do you want pix of?? an engine or engine apart??

If the 1600sp is 6v then there is no need to change the starter or any of that stuff. The difference is the flywheel (6v being smaller) so a 12v starter will not work on a 6v flywheel and vice versa. However if you have 6v fw and starter you can safely run it on 12v as i have done for ages. the starter motor just runs a little quicker.

Hope this helps.

Ian.
