Just wondering how hard it is to separate an IRS rear end from the pan.
A mate and I have been building an off-roader for a while based on an old LWB Honda Oddysey(?) frame with a 750cc Suzuki motor. Frame is lengthened
and widened.
I thought maybe an IRS rear end would work well, but are they a bolt off unit? I mean, will the trailing arms and gearbox mount, strut tower tops etc
come out in "one" piece from any of the VW's?
Don't worry about the problem adapting gearbox to gearbox, he's the engineer and thats his problem! I just want to know if the rear is a sub-frame
type assembly in the VW.
We were going to use a Datsun independent rear but the gearbox/diff faces the wrong way for the rear engine location. Still may do this if you don't
think the VW is a viable option.
Thanks heaps,
Mick.
