i have new sender units specifically suited to the gauges i have, but the threads on the new sender units are tapered but the threads on the engine are not and will destroy the fitting

how do i fit them?

you should be able to buy fittings to adapt from one thread to another... just have to hunt around for them.

BSP are usually tapered threads and are used on many fittings....
If the threads are the same, but without the taper, You may still be able to fit them.

I'm not sure whether female brass fittings used on engines are tapered ?
Maybe only the male part is tapered, so it just screws in until it doesn't leak, helped of course with pipe sealant or teflon tape.

Many shops sell brass fittings at reasonable prices...
Bearing/seal shops.... engineers supplies etc..

Most speed shops sell brass and aluminium and stainless steel fittings at Very expensive prices....

yer the problem i have found is that the thread on the temp sender unit is actually not an imperial, or metric thraed, the people i have spoken to in fitter and machinist shops have informed me that it is not uncommon for these cgauge companies to make their own thread.................

HOW F*****G HARD IS IT TO USE UNIVERSAL THREADS!!!

will tap in my own thread and block off the standard temp sensor hole in the inlet manifold, 2morrow i will copper solder a normal thread into the copper coolant pipe exiting the block, and fit the temp senser in the one thread i have found which fits. i hate this kind of messing about

What ever you do, try to keep the adapter short, so as to stop it becoming loose with vibration.

I have a 1/4 BSPT tap if that helps you...
