1300 to 1640?
blutopless2 - September 19th, 2006 at 11:02 AM

just wondering how much power gain you would see between a standard 1300 and a 1640?

oval TOFU - September 19th, 2006 at 11:30 AM

not that much power, I think it's all about the torque - esp with the 1300 gearbox, it'll be less of a chore to drive in traffic..

getting it started this week.
engine is out of car and ready to be stripped.
then have to decide on carby and manifold type and whether i need new heads.
plan is to be back on the road by the weekend.

I went from a 1300sp to a 1600sp and it was great then i added twin baby webbers :o and it was a totally diff car:kiss

hellbugged - September 19th, 2006 at 08:25 PM

yeah, i went from 1300 to 1640, totally worth it.

saves dropping a gear in many places/situations

blutopless2 - September 19th, 2006 at 09:13 PM

original motor is a 1300tp

oval TOFU - September 19th, 2006 at 11:06 PM

by the weekend huh? you work fast! (or you mechanic does.. haha)

blutopless2 - September 20th, 2006 at 01:09 PM

haha... mechanic... they are stripping today, rebuilding today and thurs... back in car thurs arvo then hopefully ready to pick up on fri....

i'm not allowed to work on motors anymore.....

oval TOFU - September 20th, 2006 at 01:33 PM

that's because you have some adversity to torque wrenches...

lol

blutopless2 - September 20th, 2006 at 04:14 PM

i used my torque wrench... just didn't have my arm set right...

blutopless2 - September 22nd, 2006 at 02:40 PM

well should see for myself tonight as it is going to be ready.
was original 1300 tp motor
changed to 1640 with p&b kit.
host of new bits and pieces to finish it off and hopefully make it go better.
cant wait.

VWCOOL - September 22nd, 2006 at 02:55 PM

will go just like a 1600...! :thumb

blutopless2 - September 23rd, 2006 at 07:38 AM

got the car back last night... runs pretty good.. am happy with the extra hp and torque.
can really feel the difference in acceleration.

Craig Torrens - September 23rd, 2006 at 11:26 AM

put some Kadrons on it and you will have the same "jump" in power again............well worth it.

lugnuts - September 23rd, 2006 at 02:53 PM

Yeah what ^ said.:thumb

oval TOFU - September 24th, 2006 at 12:21 AM

good to hear it's all going good Rod. What else did you get done?

So Jane's behaving now huh?

blutopless2 - September 24th, 2006 at 07:20 AM

well she is much better than before..tho coz of the second hand carb she has a slight flatspot off idle...
initially i wanted to put twin kadrons on it but the mechanic told me it would just be too much for the engine and it wouldn't run properly.... ??

anyway... the work she has had done is...
new heads
new push rod tubes
new inlet manifold
new carb (did not arrive in time so have a second hand one for the running in stage)
honed barrels with new piston rings
new exhaust
lightened flywheel 200mm
new clutch 200mm

so just running it in till the first service.

VWCOOL - September 24th, 2006 at 09:20 AM

I hope it got new bearings...?!

will need a headtorque and oil change at its first overnight cool-down or 500km

Kadrons are fine on a 1600.

Lightened flywheel on a standard 1640 is not really a good idea, the motor needs the weight of the flywheel to maintain torque.:thumb
