Backdoor slams too hard

Hi all
The back door of my 72 Square is nice and solid and produces a nice solid clunk when you lower it slowly and then let go, but if you know nothing about the way of the square (the majority of the people that come for rides with me) then you assume the door is being supported by two hydraulic....supports..and slam it with full gusto making a gut wrenching crash that shakes the car and makes the owner weak at the knees.

I know that the door is counter weighted by a bendy rod that goes accross the top of the door frame (kind of a spring) which makes that element of the door hard to modify...but how would you lot suggest dampening the crash and not having to shout out not to slam the door to Joe Knowsnothingaboutvws Jnr.

More padding?...Lighter door?

How?

fit a small gas strut to it.
You can get them for about $40
