rear suspension

I am putting my rear suspension together and wanted to know if anyone has any tips for re-assembly of the torsion bars, i have no reference points as the parts are from a Porsche so is it just a case of trial and error?

Cheers Stephen

My only suggestion is to make sure that the torsion bars go into the same side they came from. I don't know about Porsche but VW bars have L and R stamped on the outer ends. Torsion bars don't like to be twisted in the oposite direction to what they are used to.

Hi

Good starting point is the lower edge of the spring plate, just inline with the lower rear most cover bolt hole. You can use the factory protractor tool if you can find one, but Im not sure how accurate they would be with old torsion bars.

I do have a protractor with a magnetic base. I just cleaned it all up, threw on some new rubbers and placed the spring plate in at 20 deg angle. I then compressed it rich a rachet strap and in it went. I guess I will only know how well I went once I get the engine and trans in but I do have some play with the 944 gear.

Cheers All, Steve I'm looking forward to seeing your car soon :)
