Drove my recon 1600 today and it runs.....

Bloody Crap

Ive got two LateNotches which both died in the arse. So Ive paid the 3 grand and got a full recon long motor. New heads etc. Everything seems to run as it should but hell its slow! I Only just managed to overtake a street cleaner :P
I didn't want to spend 3 grand on a 1600 because the suby conversion is so close yet so far  and the money is better spent there I needed to get back on the road quick and had little choice. Well at least I'm on the road now and can use the 1600 later for an emergency spare.

Just for now to make it less painfull to drive is it worth going the exhaust/cam route ? Can I rejet the carbies ?

Thanks Dudes

Sounds like something is wrong - it shouldn't be embarassingly slow...

cam requires another engine disassembly

Check your ignition timing again - it may be too retarded.
It should be able to keep up with the traffic and then some!

I'tll still pull 70mph on the high way but there's not much pick up.

speak to your engine builder:tu:

where did you get the work done?

Weirners in Cairns. The motor was built by someone on the islands?

That would be Werners in Cairns. They used to get there engines from Conti Engines, but since Werner retired some time ago I'm unsure who they get them from now. The business still trades as Werners VW Center...
