Narrowed Beams and lowering
agarcia - August 4th, 2007 at 03:40 PM

Hello there,

I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can get my beams narrowed and dropped spindles installed for my 1968 Beetle.
I am in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and would prefer someone in the North/Western suburbs.
Also what would this type of work cost?

Thanks
Arnold

First thing you need to work out is what sort of beam you want.
Do you just want to lower a little or a lot.
To do this you need to know what type of wheels you want to run and tyres, this will then give you an idea of what size beam is required.
Spindles increase your wheel track so this has to be worked out along with the offsett of the rims and the size of tyres.

I really like the look where the front guards cover some of the tyres, i,e no gap between the guard and tyre.
At the moment there is about a 3 inch gap that doesn't look too good.
I dont have any wheels at the moment, but intend to get 4.5 inch rims at the front and maybe 6 at the back. Not much too choose from in Oz so I may have to look at buying from OS.
Was thinking of getting a 2.5 inch narrowed beam and 2 inch dropped spindles. I can't do this myself as my mechanical expertise is zip. So looking at paying a shop or someone to do it. Do you know any one in the North/West suburbs?
