I have a Ford TX3 1.6L FWD Turbo engine at home and am looking on the market to buy and gradually do up a VW Kombi. I'm just wondering can this engine fit in before I sell it off??? I have heard of Subaru WRX engines fitting in Beetles so I'm wondering if this mod is possible???
Hi
I cant see why not, people have fitted V8s and they hang out a little bit. You should run a tape measure over your engine and see how long it is and
add a little for the adaptor plate.
That motor would not be my choice in so much as a heavy Kombi needs cubes to move it along

Cool... I know I should be putting cubic inch power in there, but I'm not after super speed or power. Just want something that has a little bit of
power but has good fuel economy as well. I'm after a kombi that suits my Raver ways... I'm going to look around this weekend for a Kombi to do up
for a long term project.
Cheers for the advice.
a tall heavy cast iron block from the 1980s, plus the need for a radiator... Not a good choice of engine transplant.
For me the decision would be made easier based on the year of the bus. Earlier busses have smaller engine bays, and a strong VW engine will fit
straight in and go really well.
In a later bus, a Subaru 2.2 goes well, more torque. The later bus have bigger gearbox already. But you need to put more money into other items to
adapt it.
Cheers. I was just asking as I've been trying to sell this engine. One of my mates is looking at it but has a bit of finance problems at the
moment.
I know the older Kombi's can be turned to water cooled anyway. I might just stick to the original stuff and rebuild the engine if I find a cheap
Kombi to buy so I can work on it. It would be cheaper and less of a head ache. I'll see how my mates 52 Beatle turns out anyway before I touch my
engine.
