Steering Wheel Replacement Error
skintsaint - November 17th, 2007 at 05:52 PM

Hi there

Im trying to fit a steering wheel to my 72 Beetle. The streeting wheel came off another Beetle so should slip straight on but have a small problem.

When I fit it I cant seem to get the wheel to fit flush and have a 1/4 inch gap left as the picture shows below.

How would I get it to fit properly?

Cheers

Hi

There are 2 steering hub types on late beetle, one with a course spline and one with a fine spline with a taper. As long as you have the correct one you can adjust the steering column back to give you the correct clearance. You need to loosen the Allen head bolts on the column so that the switch housing can be moved.
