Blow through turbo on Dellorto carbs - who has done it?
vassy66T1 - June 23rd, 2008 at 02:43 PM

Hi

Am wanting to hear from anyone who has run a blow through turbo on either single or dual carbs. (dual preferred)
I know that injection is better but I already have a set of NOS 45 DRLA's in the cupboard with a matching rising rate Malpassi fuel regulator and linkages.
Ideally I would want to do a hideaway turbo style setup.
Appreciate any firsthand knowledge.

cheers
Marcus

you will proberly get no response as everyone goes injection.
even though your carbies are new,you will still have to pull them apart to put seals in them, get them ready for boost.
jetting will have to be done on a dyno or buy a carby guru.
you will have to purchase new emulsion tubes as the aspo ones are no good.
other than that it's pretty simple.
proberly through a electronic dizzy to get a good spark.
i look forward to seeing progress

Yeh, I haven't heard of too many going down the track but thought I would ask anyhow. My brother in law(mechanic) and his friends have some fairly good experience with engineering turbos and carbs so I don't have to just poke around in the dark. Should be fun though...

simplest is to go ford laser tx3 (?) blo thru carb like this. a few people have successfully run these before ( Dave Becker "menangler" on AVD). and they are designed for that application with small cc's too....occasionally they pop up for sale on ebay, i have seen some sold here before.

"iswinkles" ran blo thru a long while back if you search his posts........main problem was keeping the fuel inside the carbs under boost, from memory..........need special emulsion tubes, rubber top seal, bigger needles and seats, modulator rings, rising rate fuel regulator and a magic wand to get jetting correct!.......lock your timing advance to 26'

buy yourself a copy of "turbomania", a VW turbo charging guide book by Bob Tomlinson, greta advice in there on loads of other secrets too

Get the Turbo Mania book from CB Performance. They reckon the dellortos are the ticket because there is room to machine them to fit seals on the shafts. They have all the special turbo emulsion tubes and carby hats that you need.

Read the book its great info.

Those turbo carbs are off the really early square lazers, I dont know what model they are called.

Cheers again...
I will get myself a copy of the the Turbomania and thanks for the heads up on that.
I had heard/read that the Dellortos were well suited to the purpose. Picked up a T04 (from Bugy Brads yard sale) so will see if this can be made ot work.
Will post things up as I get it going.
