Hi all,
I recently scored this turbo from a mate. It's a Toyota CT26 from a 2.2 celica i believe.
This thing seems to have a fair bit of bearing play and I'd rebuild it anyway if I was seriously planning to use it...
Hence my questions...has anyone used one? On any engine? How well would it be matched to my engine?
It's a 1776 efi low compression with eagle turbo cam, stock heads, 450cc injectors controlled by megasquirt II.
I'm after some opinions please...
throw it in the bin.
if it is what i think it is.bin for you,
there are two styles of ct 26,one has a ceramic rear wheel and the other has a steel,if you are getting it rebuilt,it will be ok just ask for a steel
replacement if it doesn't already have one.
As Brad says.... If the wheel is ceramic stay away.... But if the wheel is steel, then it might be ok for a rebuild.... But if your gonna cost up a rebuild you might find you will be better off looking at a 'Garrett' (Cheaper rebuild costs)... T25's and 28's are plentiful as are T3's... Just be sure you do your homework on spec.... I have a steel wheeled BB GT28R on my 1776 draw-through.... We shall see how that goes....
I thought the CT26 was fitted to the 7MGTE which is a 3 litre 6 cylinder, but have also read somewhere that they were on the MR2. I think a rebuild of one of these will be 5-600 dollars.
Thanks for the feedback!
I think it might be better to go for a Garrett as well for the reasons above.
Is the ceramic wheel a bad thing because it can't handle being spooled up too fast or something?
I would have guessed that it would spool quicker and dissipate heat better, but i don't know much about turbos yet.
i had a CT12 on my old turbo motor
it was a freebie when my mate upgraded his GT starlet
it only lasted a while b4 the bearings crapped out
u'll probbably have better luck with a garrett
i've got one for you........PM
