Big brakes for the front of my kombi!
rocknrob - December 15th, 2008 at 04:24 PM

I've had these lying around for awhile so it's time to tidy up some projects

calipers and rotors off a BA falcon...designed a carrier bracket to bolt on like so...

here's a pic of the bracket bolted to the carrier ready to go on

in this pic you can see how i built it up

now before the brake nazis launch a raid...this is only a prototype to see if everything works...when i'm happy i'll have brackets machined out of billet

anyway it all went together very nicely

brake lines are perfect fit...they just screw together...heheh and are 30 years newer:cool:

the apdapter bracket i made was a very very tight fit with these 298mm rotors. I would love to have the 322mm rotors off the territory but then i would need 17'' rims...but just maybe the 322s skimmed down to 312mm would be the best with my 16'' rims...we'll see:yes:

looks great,
did you need to do anything to get the discs onto the stub axles (think they are called stub axles), or are the bearings etc from a kombi the same
well done

The VW being 5 x 112 with 14mm studs and Ford being 5 x 114.3 with 12.7mm studs. I am assuming that with a centre bore of the disc being a snug fit on the hub flange, that it would have just been a case of opening the ford stud holes inwards to 14mm. I hope I am making sense! As I understand it is the centre bore and flange fit that centres the disc. Or is it a case of the stud holes being made a snug fit?

finished the other side and took it around the block and stomped on the pedal...holy crap batman:punk: the bloody thing stood on its nose and all i could see out the windscreen was bitumen...heheh well thats what it felt like anyway..will test it more on that indy 500 track we have in qld they call the M1 and down a few mountains;)

I've got front and rear brakes off a VE SS to play with for my bus. Once sorted I'll go aftermarket rotors from DBA with slotted and cross drilled ones to look all flashy like LOL.

Looks good Rob.

yeah thanks brennden and merry christmas...you'll find fitting holden or falcon brakes very squidgy but it is possible...the rear the height is the problem and the front the diameter is the problem good luck:tu:

I've had this brake setup on for around 6 months now...and i've learned to trust the awesome stopping power. Heading down to the "berra" thursday to move my daughter back to sunny QLD so the old kombi will be fully loaded and then some...heheh and i don't travel slow anymore...nice to know i have the brakes up to the job:tu:
