Fresh air box scoop?
alien8 - February 5th, 2009 at 04:01 PM

Has anyone here made a little scoop to mount over the grill on the bonnet to draw in fresh air to the box? Seems like you could make the fresh air system a little more effective this way? Might look a little ghey though. Thoughts, pics.

Cool I give them a bell but I don't know. After seeing Joel's pic. they do look a little chittie. Might look into one of those inline fan things.

The ones that were available back in the seventies were a smoke coloured plastic unit that fixed through the vent with 2 screws. i haven't seen these for a long time.Possibly the aftermarket weathershield makers may have one.

hmm if we can find one we could make some fiberglass ones ;)

I have a new one here i bought a few years ago...

I haven't taken it out of the packet yet...

its black plastic EMPI 1971-72 copyright No 161
riverside california

front hood scoop 49-08239

it just clips on thru the vents..
fits 68 and later sedans..
adds racing appeal to a beetle...

I have one of the ones that Lee is talking about. Here are some pics of it fitted. (sorry they are at night).

I'm unsure as to how effective it really is, I reckon it may actually create turbulence inside the scoop that basically cancels out any benefit.

Cheers

That scoops a little less obvious. I was kind of thinking about the turbulence theory to. I pretty sure I am going with a inline fan set up now. Just looking at cost atm.
