Hi all,
I have talked with the mechanic i purchase parts off regarding shocks for a lowered front end (welded adjusters, not drop spindles), he recommends
heavy duty oil shocks, that are standard size.
I am planing on starting with some very little racing and slowly get more involved as i tune the car.
For those that do some motor sports with there bugs and have lowered front suspension with only adjusters, what style shocks do you use and are they
standard length?
I haven't removed the bumb stops so the suspension isn't going to travel any higher, but if i use standard length shocks won't they bottom out all
the time?
Cheers,
Matt.
I am assuming that you have a king & link pin front end due to you mentioning bumpstops. So if the bumpstops are still intact the suspension will
bottom out on the bumpstops before it bottoms out the shocks. Once you remove the bumpstops it becomes a whole different matter as I believe the
shocks will be the next thing in line to "act" as a bumpstop. If you end up lowering the car enough to warrant the removal of the bumpstops (and you
probably will) you will need shorter shocks. As for for what brand, length, oil or gas etc thats beyond my expertise level. Someone else will probably
jump in with some more info, or post the same question in the Circuit Racing section.
Cheers
Brendan
I don't think the standard length shocks will bottom out
but not 100% sure as I don't have original VW shocks..
the ones i Did have on were too short when I raised the front end a bit to stop the tyres rubbing on the guard rim
so the ones i Have on now, have heaps of room Up & Down.. so they won't bottom out etc..
My front end is a balljoint one and the rubbers are on the shocks... . so they cannot bottom out...
someone should be able to help you...
I also go for heavy duty OIL shocks..
especially for the front...
although i have them both ends...
cheers
