Child Car Seat installation - 69 bug
Waikikamukau - March 21st, 2009 at 03:21 PM

Has anyone put a car seat (Safe'n'Sound model) into a '69 beetle or similiar? Where abouts is the safest spot to put the anchor bolt?

Don't want to go drilling until I get an idea of what I will drill through in the back parcel area.

Appreciate any help.

I think you may find back parcel area is no good.
I have a 73 Kombi and with that the chassis area's were on the sides and in the bottom (floor) and I am pretty sure that is same with Beetle. But let some others with more experience correct me if I am wrong

I had two anchors put in to my 72 S Beetle. One for each side. Its a metal plate with a nut tacked on the back and rivited to the engine side of the fire wall about half way up. It was done by a engineer. It cost $200 for the fabrication and $100 for the certificate. Costly, but safe as it can be in a Beetle. I am pretty sure its not legal to install them yourself, unless your an engineer that is.

Cheers thanks all, I had a feeling it may require certification from a licensed engineer. Particularly because it involves safety. Any suggestions on types of places I should be googling in order to get this done?
