I've seen recently a some Type 1's that have Golf Mk 2 steering colulmns and indictaor/wiper switches.
Has anyone got any experience with what is interchangeable with a superbeetle that can update the workings to include electric windscreen washers?
I am in the process of fitting Porsche 944 instruments and want to update the switchgear too.
Any help is appreciated.
I've seen beetles with Golf switchgear and steering wheels etc....
Not sure how hard it is...
I'm sure it wouldn't be easy....
a bit of cutting and welding etc....
unless it will fit onto a beetle steering shaft???
but the late beetles 75-76 ?? had the small steering shaft same as a Golf.....

its a bolt on affair if u can find all the parts
theyre basically the same in design overall to the 74 on bug one but the difference being golf switchgear are 3 bolt and bug is 4 so u need to get a
3bolt golf housing

I have the bits and pieces from a 79 Golf, they have nice rounded switchgear, I'm going to fit them in my new bug.
I'm also going to use a fuse box from a Camira with blade fuses and use the same fuse box wiring configuration as the 79 Golf.
I'm planning to mount the fuse box under the front hood next to the air box, I hate where the L bug/1303 has the fuse box on the floor, I always kick
it.

I am using a 74 column in a 71 body and as I am back to bare shell, my canvas is blank! I will check out the golf units as if it fits with some minor
modifications, it may be the way to go.
I am seriously thinking of buying the Watson's Street Works wiring loom so that i have completely modern fuses/relays etc. This should be fairly easy
to intergrate with whatever more modern swith gear I end up using, AND, it has to be safer than the old fashioned bare connections.....

Has anyone used these? If so, let me know what its like as it is a rather pricey way to go, but has to be better than the standard loom.
Does any one have anty suggestions on a local supplier?
just remember dont pull out that wiring behind the passenger seat its a bastard to get back in so leave it there untill your ready to roll the replacement through :P
