Removing the body
crafty - August 8th, 2009 at 05:01 PM

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has come accross a similar problem to me and if so what they did about it. I am in the process of removing the body all was going well until I came to the last bolt to undo which was the 17mm bolt right at the front on the left hand side. This is a blind bolt IE you cant see the nut that its threaded into, I think this nut is spot welded to the body and well mine is just turning around as I try to undo it now, I have tried to lift the body from the chassis to put pressure on the bolt but it still turns - please help!!
This is on a 75 super - thought I better add that.

I has similar thing happen in mine and I had to cut the bolt heads off with an air chisel and oxy on the stubborn ones.

Good luck, Kev

Option B is to cut a small hole in your heater channel so you can get a spanner to the captive nut as if you are going to replace the body later on you are going to need to get access in there anyway to fit a new captive nut.
Just do your cuts neatly with a 1mm cutting wheel on a 4 " grinder and save the piece cut out and just weld it back in when finished .

Thanks fellas, I had come to the conclusion that I would have to cut something, think I will cut a hole in the body reweld the nut in place and try again to remove the bolt.

Cheers
