what the best fan to use and the messurements of it and can you buy them aftermarket or do I have to buy a good second hand one, as my heat in my
buggy is extreme after a good run 120 deg c or do i add a external cooler
cheers
Stevo
1302 or 1303 is the biggest there is mate.
i find that there is not enough air coming out where the oil cooler im sure there was much more in my other cars ill try another fan housing a
original one and see how i go, my question is how big is the biggest fan just to see if i have one that big allready in place
cheers
stevo
no idea off the top of my head but there was only 5-10mm difference in the 1600 ones from when i did my conversion a few years ago.
Make sure you dont have a single port fan in there.
it's a common mistake and sounds like the problem.
Those are dangerzone temps your running
There is only one size fan for doghouse/twinport engines.
Like barls said the single port fan looks the same but is about 1/4" shorter at the oil cooler end so keeps the cylinders and heads cool but nukes
the oil through lack of air flow
thanks guys ill sus it ill take the cage and engine out sometime this week thanks again hopefully i have a replacement
cheers
stevo
If there is not much air flow out of the dog house cooler you need to check that the cooler is not full of crud, this could be the problem
thanks man ........thought of that also so it will also be checked when out on the floor
i do remember something when i put the fan in the housing and it hit the inside front of the fan housing so i had to bend it alittle maybe i have a single port doghouse housing is that possiable

Single port engines were dropped in aus during 1970, everything after was twinport using the same doghouse fan, including all the 71-75 1300 standard "non super beetle"
okay this is the thing got a motor no fan housing had a few sitting around got one got a genny with a fan put it on how do i find out what is a single port fan housing and what is a dual port fan housing none of these fan housings are numbered or pulled by myself of engines so i do not know what they are off is there any clear indication what the differences are between the two housings
Just measure the blade area width
doghouse fans are 38mm like this
A single port fan would only be about 30mm
thanks joel
noticed also you have a way bigger gap between the fan and the alt tin ware this could be the cause of the problem cause the fan measures the same........ when i look back at lees pics it sits the same as hes
The fan gap is just shimmed to suit the shroud, if the gap is too big or small the fan will rub on the shroud
even with a qwick spin of the gen on the housing you can feel the air so it should be all good now just have to wait till it stops pissin down here
