Want to change to Electronic Ignition. Help ??
jeremyluke - June 5th, 2011 at 05:35 PM

I am going to remove the points from the project that I am working on. Im keeping the car close to stock, but want to remove the points. Looking at buying something from Cip1.
What are my options as I really dont know anything about the various kits or new distributors available.
Like i said, the car will remain almost stock, so there wont be any upgrades to the engine apart from ignition system.

Any advice or help would be appreciated

Thanks
Jeremy

Ok - hope this helps

1 Pertronic or Compufire - cheap ($100??) and fits exist dizzy. OK-isk
2 Scorcher - This is what I have. New dizzy, not reused 009 - but still has a rotor. All Bosh parts, readily available. Been VERY happy. $400ish
3 Dis-X $600ish individual coil pack. No rotors. Good but have "HEARD" of some unknown failure. Not proved in my books and I will probably go this way when I have some money to waste
4 MSD - lots of money and options. For the serious

What about buying a PERTRONIX VACUUM ADVANCE (SVDA) DISTRIBUTOR with the electric ignition already installed ?
The car currently has a mechanical advance distributor, so is it worth paying a bit more for the vacuum ?

The Pertronix vacuum advance (with ignition module installed)
and a Flame thrower coil
Will cost $250 AUD including postage, but if i do decide on getting anything i might wait till Cip1 puts there deals up again, just missed out on the 15%off one

How about you try Rod Penrose. He's local and he may have what you're looking for if you tell him what you're after. It may be cheaper as well.

Hey Lee

Read your email and check out the Distributors, but which of them are you refering to ? Then ACN SVDA or the Pertronix SVDA? Also will i need to upgrade the Coil if i purchase one of these ?
