How to - One peice windows onto old doors
Turbo54 - August 1st, 2011 at 11:44 AM

Hi All,
I would like to know if anyone has a old article from a of USA magazine with the article on how to put one piece windows into a set of 54 doors.

I have bought a set of dual lift mechanisms so I wont get window drop and will proberly get a set of glass and rails from bugpack or someone similar.

I slotted them into place yesterday but before I start drilling holes I think I would ask someone if they had don't it already.

Before anyone cries about me cutting up a set of 54 doors to do this, I don't care, so please dont post. My car my taste.

I have done the conversion in my Oval-I am fairly sure I used regulators from a late S Bug.I have a spare set of clear glass to suit the early doors. You will need to get rid of the door check arm that hooks to the body-when you close the door it will hit the glass and smash it.You will need a set of the wire type. The only problem I remember was getting the reg to sit properly-reckon I made some spacers to line it up square.I think I may have the original fitting instructions somewhere-will check it out for you.

Thanks NB, would appreciate any guide as I have never done it before or looked in behind a door card of one done before.
My lifts are like these:

If you want PM me for B4's number he fitted a set to his oval about 25 years ago and there were no kits then.
He even had to get the glass made by a company in New Zealand.
He will be able to give you some info and he's only in Tea Tree Gully

I'm sure its been done before....
it was a common modification about 10-15 years ago...

I was all for it when I bought My 68 beetle but was talked out of it...

My Son had them on His 56 Beetle..

up until 1953 split rear window beetles had them standard ..lol

make sure the inner and outer scrapers go round the corners at the ends.. the straight ones don't look good IMHO
[In My Humble Opinion]

cheers

Hi
those window mechanisms were ONLY in 68 model Beetles in Australian models... 65-66-67 German made beetles...
I have seen many done with standard SINGLE winders... supers etc..

The one piece glass was readily available 10-20 years ago...
