I'm a volunteer at the RAAFA Aviation Heritage Museum in Perth.
There is a gyrocopter being restored there.
It has an 1835 cc VW engine with the serial number 126-078601.
I can't find that number or anything like it in my copy of Muir.
It also has the words:- HI-SPEED CONV. A0.9 stamped on the engine case, beside the distributor, which does not look like a standard distributor.
Can someone please tell me what the engine is and what the stamping means?
Sounds cool get some pics.
It is/was an industrial engine.
Sorry.
Pics are not possible as it's been stripped and there are bits all over the work shop.
I'll post some pics when the restoration is finished.
Hi-Speed conversions is a company in
WA that has been building aircraft and speedway engines(and everything else aircooled VW) for 40 years.
They will identify what the details are based on the numbers.
It appears that Hi-Speed Conversions was in Brown Street East Perth. It has closed down.
It was managed by Gerry Prosser of Gerry Kay Mechanical of Morley in Perth.
He stamped his work work GGP (his initials).
I'll contact him for more info.
Thanks for your help.
