engineer Cert - Brake test-
satori - August 30th, 2012 at 08:19 PM

I am in the process of putting a ej25 into my DC T3. Regency said that I will probably need to get a engineer to do a brake test. Has anyone had this done. Do you think the T3 brakes are up to the task. Im down in Adelaide. Thanks

If it is a non turbo EJ25, then you will be fine. The stock brakes on our 1975 T2 passed the brake test for an EJ22 real easy. The engineer said they were well within requirements.

Have you spoken to any engineers yet? Let me know if you need a good engineer, he's done some subaru conversions before and seams to have a good reputation. He can also give you good advice on everything you need to do.

Guys
From what I've read this is a brake test from A fixed speed
It has nothing to do with the the gibes output but more the weight of the car and how it's influenced by a heavier engine install

Going thru it now with the eng on the buggy
Same test using a stock 1300 and a supercharged 1600

The brake test is done by accelerating to fixed speeds and braking as quick as possible several times. The output of the engine will have your brakes tested quicker, and the chance for brake fade is higher due to the less time for heat dissipation.

A friend of mine had an old Holden with V8 conversion tested, and his brakes, suspension and front ball joints got so hot the grease was melting out of the rubber boots. His car just passed.

This is what a guy from work told me about his car

The brake test consisted of 8 stops from 60kmh and 2 stops from 100kmh. They use an accelerometer to measure deceleration and a pressure sensor on the pedal. The values have to be fairly close across all 10 braking stops for it to pass

You definitely need to talk to an engineer in SA as we don't have national laws for mods yet. Can recommend an engineer in Vic but that will not be any help to you.

Cheers..........Wayne
