Pulling hard left (HELP)
69bug - October 22nd, 2012 at 08:16 PM

Hey guys
Bug just recently got an RWC
Had full brake bleed + new cylinders on type 3 rear drums
Now the pedal is really quite soft and under hard or jerky braking the car pulls violently to the left
The mechanic had a look at it and said he couldn't not see anything really wrong
Before I pull it apart some advice on what it could be/what to look for would be a big help!
Thanks
Mike

Flexible hoses needing replacement is a possibility
Fronts are drums or discs?

Discs

had this just 6 months or more...

I replaced the brake calipers, it appeared the brakes were only applying to one side. I tried bleeding the lines multiple times and was getting good brake fluid flow, so it wasn't a blockage in the line. It could be assumed that one of teh calipers must have been siezed or siezing/being sticky. probably because it was original, thus old and overtime gunk had built up, or rust and locked it up in a position that allowed the wheel to spin freely, but only activated to one side on the front.

The calipers i fitted cured my woes, but woah! had braking made the steering flying around, scary.

How do I diagnose the calliper ? Jack the car up and have some one hold the brake while I spin the wheel?

that'll do it! It will prove which side isn't applying brake force.

Either because of caliper or blocked brake line on that side.

had this happen too on my old square, all the rubbers went hard in the calipers and froze the pistons (mainly the right side), mine also pull left when braking but pulled right when not braking and my top speed was 30mph instead of 80-90pmh. right brake pads had flames coming off them when I got back home.

Ah memories!
