Checking out the splits donk today and i notice it has a 28 pict carby fitted. while stuffing around i remembered having a fairly new 30 Pict carb in a box which i took off my bug. any benefit in putting the 30 pict on?
Depends what size engine it is as to whether benefit lies. the word of mouth is that vw engines are generally 'under-carbed' in factory form. the
solex pict series did also have some flange width differences to, as to whether that will be the case with 28 to 30 i'm not sure, you might be
lucky.
how many cc's we talking?
1500 ball tearing cc. the 28 sits high in the engine bay as well
lovely. this is a good quick read about the 28pict and the 30pict:

Pretty much says your quite undercarbed at the moment. 28 pict was the stock carb for 1200cc, with 30 pict for 1500cc.
On with the 30 i say! :P
And with the 30, you still got the easy adjustment, and non- irritating features that 34 pict brings about. Cream of the crop it seems, solex pict
wise.

Well after reading that looks like the 30 is going on. Fingers crossed the accel cable will be the same hook up as the 28
bang it on mate, and see how she goes
The result has to Be good..
the 30 series I think are great carburetors..
the later the better...
the 30 PICT 3 was a great carby..
but the 30 PICT 1 & 2 were OK too... they just got better..
IMHO
