can this be right?

I was doing some reading on this site and supposedly the EJ22 is capable of being boosted to 350+ hp with stock internals. I'm having a hard time believing this, or believing the engine would last very long. Am I wrong?

on a safe tune, yes sounds about right. I would question using stock pistons as they are known for breaking ring lands with boost.

There are heaps of engines out there than can triple even quadruple power output and still be very reliable.

That just contradicts pretty much everything I've ever read about boosting an EJ22. Most say don't bother, and the rest say don't do it over 200 hp.

reading about it, and actually seeing it done is different.

I seen heaps of EJ25 running super charger kits that have lasted years pumping out about that much, totally stock engines.

They do over 200hp easily but up around 350hp I'd question what they class as stock internals

Roaches junkyard boosted EJ22 has been daily driven with 220hp at the wheels but over that being an open deck block should is getting into dodgy territory without mods.

The 'stock internals' label kind of got me thinking too. I would imagine stuff like the injectors would be need to be upgraded, but those aren't exactly internal. Sees like a lot of hype.

So that is about 280hp at the flywheel. that is not that far away from 350 from a FI engine point of view.

Stop talking crap. An EJ22 with forgies, (maybe aftermarket rods) different injectors, different turbo, nice big intercooler, different exhaust, custom tune etc will pull 350hp at the flywheel. A stock one will never do it, a boosted one will do it for a second before exploding. With all those mods it's a pretty expensive setup. That's why 2.0 STi's at 280hp stock have forgies, decent rods, decent turbo, decent intercooler and a second/third generation ECU with much better mapping.

"Stop talking crap". Subarugear, I've been waving your flag for some time now as the owner of a rear engined vehicle and the service you provide. This comment is bordering on inflamatory. Passive aggressive at best.

As a tinkerer of many years I also dont know near as much as the majority here but what I do know is printed here as my opinion of which I am entitled. Otherwise we'd all just shut up and leave the information to the "experts".

Maybe I'm reading it wrong but it comes across that way. Love your input otherwise.
