Need help ej22 ignition relay not triggering
richys green bug - August 8th, 2015 at 05:52 PM

I'm almost ready for first start up. Just cant get power to the ignition relay.
The trigger wire is not triggering when ignition key is on.
My harness was cut down by amauto.
Anyone have any ideas?

Is engine earthed to chasis?

richys green bug - August 9th, 2015 at 11:18 AM

Yes it definitely has a good earth to the motor.

Have you earthed the ignition relay? The ignition relay has a different earth to the rest of the circuits in the Subaru loom, I don't know how Amauto do their looms. The ECU gets it earth from the engine earth on the manifold and actuates most circuits by taking them to earth but the ignition relay is different.

D5, G1 or U1 ecu?

richys green bug - August 9th, 2015 at 04:58 PM

It's a U1ecu.
I just tried earthing the ignition relay...nothing.

I've looked at a few wiring diagrams and they all show that the light green trigger wire branches off to a diode (which is powered by the ignition key) before it goes to the ecu.

Mine has no diode just goes straight to the ecu. Could that be the problem?

When I get power to that trigger wire it all lights up (check light & fuel pump)

I'll send some pics soon as I can work it out ☺

Have not used a diode on the two U1 that I did.

That's good to know. Thank you

Don't worry about the diode, hook up the relay trigger wire to a battery then other wire "ground" to the negative on the battery. This should energise the relay, if it doesn't id say the relay has failed.

Make sure the circuits your switching through the ignition relay have power, from memory they branch of a 30amp fuse all red wires into this relay and the fuel pump relay.

Have fun

Awesome. I'll give it a go. Thanks a lot .

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I've got it sorted now. After talking to Miles for two minutes telling me what wires to check, we found that one wire was damaged. The boys at Amauto really now their stuff.

Come on Rich, hurry up with this thing!
