lift pump surge tank install on 71 lowlight EJ22
Sunnyjim - May 23rd, 2016 at 06:52 PM

Hi all

My ej22 conversion has taken longer than expected but that should have been anticipated , right?

After rolling into the neighbours yard, coz dumb dumb left it in neutral with no HB on! Anyway it forced me to address rust problems and I ended up doing the doglegs and replacing the front inner and outer valances.

Then back onto finalising the conversion I am happy to report my cooling system seems great now that I have plumbed the 2 engine bay honda triple core rads in parrallel .

So over the last couple of years I have had fuel issues . I have bought several pumps. One ebay copy did fail on me but I finally had to admit my system was flawed . When I took my tank out I got my mechanic to weld in a much bigger outlet for me . I thought this would suffice but after endless fuel hose plumbing rearrangements I still had a screaming fuel pump after 20 mins of driving. It would often stall and not restart until the next morning. I finally decided to install a lift pump and surge tank.

It seems to have solved the issue but one small issue the |EFI pump is an original Bosch 044 form Chzech. It so good and quiet but I bought a HEP 0202 lift pump and it is real noisy.

Can anyone reccomend a quiet 12volt low pressure lif pump?

hi all

i have searched and found a pierburg type lift pump. i heard it is quiet compared to facet and hep020.

has anyone had any experience?

also there are 2 flavours. 65litre 3 to 4psi and 100litre 5 to 7 psi.
what should i go for?

do i need to consider the flow rate of my efi pump? i think a commodore vl 070 has over 100 litres per hour?

i was favoring the lower 65litre option as i was assuming if might be quieter than a higher pressure higher flow model?

advice welcome

Hi Paul,

The Pierburg lift pump is very quiet. I have one you could borrow and try if you haven't bought one already.

Cheers

here is the new lift pump. it looks just like a normal efi pump except about half the size.

anyway got it installed and it is quiet. i still need to test drive but looks good so far.
