I've had various subaru engines in my 73 bay but recently bought a trailersailer which weighs a tonne unloaded...i didn't think a turbo 4 cylinder
was the best towing engine
[img][/img]
shiny bit is from Sherman who's little workshop is just down the road and i drew the adapter plate and had it lasercut...yeah just down the road
[img][/img]
crossmember was fiddly as always but fitted nicely in front of the sump and will protect this alloy piece
ha! dunno if this will load...fired it up this arv and sounded so sweet
[img][/img]
don,t worry about the exhaust pipes...i have to fit the bumper assembly before i cut them to length...exhaust was made from a single tubular bed frame from lifeline for $15...why its white...once the polycoat burns off i'll paint it...or not....
after i finish it all next will be the 091 box rebuild...cos i have a supercharger which will fit nicely on that 3.8
[img][/img]
I'm using as much of the commodes electrics as i can...so this is the speedo unit in mockup
[img][/img]
so the tach and water temp and others work nicely but the speedo is a whole new problem...works off this hall sensor which plugs into the gear
box...holden gearbox that is! no such plug on an 091...what to do?
[img][/img]
and the answer is in the sky...satellites...gps...this thing is a gps driven unit which converts the position to thousands of pulses per minute and
interfaces with the electronic speedo...and its on its way from the good ole usa right now...go buick!
getting the gearing right with an engine transplant is important...and difficult...the commodore this engine comes from does 100k/hr at 2500rpm
so does my kombi now with these 265/70/16 rear tyres
heheh...won't hurt its cross country ability either!
Where have you mounted the cooling system Rob?

wombat years ago when i fitted a subaru engine because i like to travel cuntry roads i fitted the radiator inside an worked very well.
since the v6 install i have fitted a davis craig fulltime water pump an may upgrade the Holden Vp radiator to a three core V8 one
Very happy with the way this thing goes...less than 2500rpm @ 100 kph on the highway but i'm more interested in its off highway capabilities so a
lower 1st gear would be desirable...enter the 094 five speed which is like the 4speed but with lower 1st gear...perfect!
pick it up soon and start sorting any fitting complications...heheh keeps my bay all vw...well apart from the cast iron lump in the engine bay!
trying to sort out the gearing i want ...there is a 5.43 R&P stock VW to fit the 094 five speed...this is very low so i would need a 0.7 fifth to give me the highway speeds i want...question is where would i source that?

Thanks for the tip Smiley that exactly what i need
i figure with 0.7 fifth and 5.5 final drive i'll have a genuine overdrive and almost a low range 1st
with that fifth i'll get 40k/hr /1000rpm
Ha! jumped on the Weddle site straight away and have placed my order....5.5 R&P and 0.7 fifth idler and splined...no idea whether the order will
go through waiting for the confirming email
$95 for german r&p? get outta here!
Hey Smiley you are the man who makes people smile... got the email and i have been debited $650...heheh so i guess its on its way!
yeah i have the complete 094 five speed stuff...mounting brackets shift rod and box thingy for the front and even the five speed gearstick
time to pull the 4 speed out and offer the 094 up!

ok so the vw starter just barely copes turning over the V6 so i decided to make life easier....crankykit
[img][/img]
changing the pinion is fun but i made a presser...opposite of a puller...job done and starts so much easier,,,but....
[img][/img]
yeah so it starts great for a millisecond but then cuts out...this happened a few times while out driving and in hindsight i was lucky not to need
a towtruck to get home...its the pipe from throttle body to MAF...new one on the way $43
oh and btw...thanks Paul very neat and accurate kit and the suby starter is so much easier to fit than the bulky gutless VW one
What's the deal with these Photo Bucket images - won't load and the a bunch of crap ads???
yeah it looks like photobucket has had the royal order...well mine anyway...i'll be deleting it
I don't understand all this photobucket B.S. but life goes on and hopefully our forum. My Kombi is going great. A 3.8 ecotec V6 from a commodore VT series two....I bought the complete registered car for $500 and stripped it. I used the complete engine and ECU and loom. Had a problem for a while...the ECU was for and automatic...it always thought it was in park....weird it felt like there was two programs running at once...and there was! Pulled the plug on the IACV and adjusted the (sealed dont touch) throttle body butterfly screw and bingo! runs like a dream and get better fuel economy than my subaru engines!
I've had a radiator from a VN or so holden six for years but am upgrading to a new V8 three core copper one from the same area...modifying the box i
have it in slightly to make access easier....
also while i have the radiator out and fluid drained will be pulling the front beam to install adjusters...heheh...to adjust the height up!
2inches will level it with the back i reckon
Also been doing christmas shopping from america...over $3000 dollars in gearbox parts...will give me more confidence!
