Not for the power hungry Jap VW but something to make the good old T3 more reliable.
I've done 3 conversions based on the above engine in the last 12 months, all in 2WD's. I am now working on a Syncro.
I've used the complete "Diesel" kit from the Euro/US vans complete with bellhousing etc and as an alternative used an adpater by John
Sherman from Queensland, who adpated his "standard" kit to the "slant" Diesel version.
Both ways seem to have advantages and disadvantages.
As for the all Diesel kit it is all stock VW stuff, that being an advantage in itself when it comes to sourcing parts and info.
The disadvantage is the rareness of the clutch and starter motor parts in the country (available but at a wait & cost).
The engine adpater on the other hand allows you to retain both the 228mm clucth and 1.9/2.1 starter, but it is not stock VW. It's the only easy
way though to convert a syncro, because the "indent" in the tank for the starter does not work with the "Diesel" bellhousing.
The Golf III 2ltr engine (ADY or AGG engine code) has slightly better specs compared to the 2.1ltr WBX. It has 85kw and 166NM torque at 3200rpm.
Again not exciting but better than the original with nice low end torque.
All in all it fits without modification under the engine lid and you do not loose ground clearance.
A nice (and real) VW alternative to all the other mods available.

Whats a good price for a diesel kit if you found one? I have access to one but not sure of the value...Complete bellhousing with starter, clutch &
output shaft.
Any ideas?

I'm guessing a the golf motor is cheaper to maintain/rebuild also?

How about a golf VR6 motor
saw one in the latest WOB (german VW magazine), twin turbo with 480hp. It was in a series 1 golf!!
If i had a scanner i'd post some pics.
Also in Germany they sell beetle deck lids with bumps in all the right places to fit a golf motor as it is a fairly standard mod.

You need the flywheel, sump, oilpump pickup, engine mounts and engine support bars as well, otherwise there is not much point in having the other bits
unless you want to make them yourself.
Usually all of those bits are worth around
$1500.
What you listed is comparable with and engine adapter kit which sell for around $750. That may be the price you are looking at.
