FWIW, I did my own wiring for an EJ22 into an '82 Transporter.
I did it ONLY after I had bought some instructions and a detailed wiring layout from Hobert Kennedy in California.
Kennedy Engineered Products have been adapting engines for 35 years and they specialise in Subaru-VW, but also other engines to VW. They make some
very useful parts, and it is VERY well worth spending $3 to obtain their full catalogue. It is full of information/ideas.
The wiring information cost USD20, from memory and was excellent value. Armed with this, some talcum powder, a blade, side-cutters, an old door and a
few other items, I had no trouble at all in doing the wiring.
I also bought their air intake designed specifically to allow an EJ22 to fit into the aircooled Transporters. (This is tricky, and different for
later wasserleaker conversions.)
I would highly recommend KEP for information, and especially for their catalogue. They are very speedy in dispatching goods.

For those who don't know, there is a Yahoo egroup (subaruvanagon) devoted specially to Subarus into Transporters/Vanagons. It has over 1360 members
and over 15,000 message posted. There is a LARGE files section covering all manner of issues.
