PRE EJ20T conversion
Slow - May 18th, 2004 at 05:15 PM

Is there any cheap engines prefer carby, with the same mounts, as an EJ20T?

Im not happy with the 72 Superbugs, 1600 engine, and instead of getting it fixed, I want to change it over, I want to end up with an EJ20T but have a few other projects to do first so a simpler engine conversion that would make an EJ20T conversion easier would be good...

so what is there?

thanks

Cory

a lot of the ej engines use the same bolt pattern and use the same adaptor.

I guess your after a carbied conversion first though. Go with an early EA carby engine, like and EA61 or an EA81. Should be real cheap to find.

I am not sure if any of the EA or EJ adaptor parts are interchangeable. There are people on this forum that would know though.

You can also try ringing adaptor plate manufacturers and talking to them, they would certainly know. There is a list of them in the archive/info post in this sub-forum.

I'm pretty sure the adaptor plate and mounts differ between the EA series and EJ series of motors.

I've got an EA82 carby motor and adaptor plate for sale . Also have an EA81 and adaptor plate for sale . Also a VW golf 1600 and adaptor plate for sale .

yup, mounts are different between ea's and ej's. if you made the engine mount properly though, i should imagine that it would not be hard to change over without too much modification of the mount.

Hi

If you go for an earlier motor & adaptor at least you can setup the cooling system and then just upgrade to later motor at a later date.

Nope, all the EJ's (EJ18, EJ20, EJ22, EJ25, EJ20T and EJ20TT) are all injected.

You can go ea82Turbo 100kw,off the leone rx turbo of the mid 80's.
It is an efi engine.
ea82 carby motor are ok,most are carby, ohcams, the ea81's are ohvalves.
Not very powerfull, the 82's are a better choice i think.
