kombibob - June 4th, 2004 at 07:24 PM

Please excuse my ignorance but im new to water cooled engines espcially late modle ones . my new ej20tt powered kombi is hard to start in the morn and runs quite rich(still uses less fuel than my 1800 t4 ) a friend said it could be that the air flow meter is runing rich and cousing it to over over fuel on cold start up does this sound right ,if so how do i fix it or does any now a good machanic on the north side of brisbane /shalow south side . or will gladly pay any one who has a clue to fix it for me.
the motor is runnig a standard computer.
thanks

o to let you know we found that the wire to the air flow meter had been damaged .this was found buy crimping the wires with a set of plyers then a big spark jumped out to earth . o this only took three days to find !

For genuine advice contact AL at Sunspares Subaru. Do you have a speed sensor?

BUS 23Q - August 1st, 2004 at 10:39 AM

i had the sam prob..... needed to get a speed sensor and by that time it stuffed the o2 sensor and had to replace.(if it is white it is proply stuffed).. also check if u have and air leeks into the exaust, this can give the o2 sensor a faulse reeding and give the motor more fuel. and is the o2 sensor it ruffly the same place as original? also check IAC motor.... this can make the car hard to stert if not working proply, try do in that order so u dont keep stuffing the o2 sensor as they are sensertive to to much fuel constantly

If you reckon it is running rich all the time as well as on start up then look at the water temp sensor and its wiring.
the water temp sensor alters fuelling according to water temp and is responsible for "choking" (enrichening) the engine when cold.

If the sensor is buggered or the wiring is dodgey then this will result in overfuelling. Temp sensors are not overly prone to failing but its worthwhile checking.

Try changing the sensor with a known good item.
If no luck there then do a continuity check on the wiring right back to the computer.
